Pyramiden, Svalbard (Arctic Norway)
Pyramiden is a remote Arctic ghost town on the island of Spitsbergen, once a Soviet coal-mining settlement with schools, cultural facilities and apartment blocks built for workers and their families. After the mine closed, the population left and buildings were largely abandoned, leaving behind personal effects, posters and Soviet-era memorabilia. The dramatic polar landscape, combined with the eerily preserved interiors and the occasional polar bear in the area, makes Pyramiden a unique destination for adventurous travelers. Among its curiosities is the world’s northernmost grand piano, a reminder of everyday life in an extreme environment.
