Zannier Hotels has opened a boutique property in the heart of Ghent, bringing distinctive historic charm and a central base for exploring the Belgian city.
The Carriage
Housed in a former post office, 1898 The Post is the newest addition to Zannier Hotels’ curated collection of properties in sought-after destinations. The 38-room hotel combines early 20th-century décor and antique furnishings with a striking neo-Gothic stone façade adorned with escutcheons and statues that reflect Belgium’s rich architectural heritage.
Each room and suite offers its own distinct character as a nod to the building’s past, while sharing features such as high ceilings, generous windows, plush furnishings and comfortable bedding. The hotel’s first floor includes a shared lounge area centered around a large, inviting fireplace. The Kitchen provides homemade buffet-style breakfasts, light lunches and snacks throughout the day.
On the second floor, the Honesty Bar overlooks the Grain Market, creating a relaxed spot to unwind. The Cobbler cocktail bar channels an old-time atmosphere with handcrafted cocktails and views across historic Ghent, providing a refined yet approachable evening setting.
“Our ambition is to offer an alternative to the mythical buildings that make up the history of the great capitals and the boutique hotels that flourish every year throughout the world. This establishment aims to present an unpretentious lifestyle. And it is this guiding light that inspires and guides our various projects. It is a strong and original brand,” said Arnaud Zannier, founder of Zannier Hotels.
The Cobbler
Located in the center of Ghent, the hotel offers easy access to the city’s canals, historic squares and cultural attractions, making it an appealing option for travelers who value both history and comfort. The combination of restored architectural features and carefully chosen interiors creates a welcoming, authentic experience that complements the city’s atmosphere.
With its thoughtfully designed public spaces and personalized guestrooms, 1898 The Post positions itself as a refined yet unpretentious address in Ghent, suitable for visitors seeking a memorable stay rooted in local character.
