Wiltons of London Marks 280 Years with Exclusive Anniversary Dining Experience

First opened in 1742 by George William Wilton, who sold oysters, shrimp and cockles near Haymarket in London, Wiltons has attracted diners with classic British fare for more than two centuries. This summer the restaurant marks its 280th anniversary and celebrates its long-standing place among London’s finest dining establishments with a special commemorative menu.

“Our original Oyster Rooms, Wiltons’ direct ancestor, had been serving shellfish and oysters to customers for 34 years before America declared independence in 1776,” says Jason Phillips, director of Wilton’s Holdings. “We are proud that our commitment to showcasing the best of British cooking has allowed us to thrive for 280 years. It is a remarkable milestone.”

To mark the anniversary, Wiltons will offer a limited-time seven-course dinner menu available from July 1 to August 31. Priced at £280 per person, the experience includes wine pairings, water and service. The menu opens with a classic oyster course in homage to the restaurant’s origins as an oyster room.

Following the oysters, guests will be served smoked salmon with caviar, followed by a rich lobster bisque. The main courses spotlight Dover sole and a roast rack of lamb served with peas and baby gem lettuce. A green apple mousse provides a light, refreshing palate cleanser before dessert, when diners may choose between a classic strawberry soufflé or ice cream. Each course is thoughtfully paired with French and English wines selected to complement the flavours.

This anniversary menu celebrates Wiltons’ heritage—simple, well-sourced ingredients, careful technique and a focus on traditional British dishes presented with elegance. Reservations are recommended for this seasonal offering, which honours the restaurant’s long history while offering guests a memorable fine-dining experience in the heart of London.
