WestJet Debuts Upgraded Business Class Seats and Layout

Canadian airline WestJet has introduced its first-ever business-class seat, debuting aboard the carrier’s new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in early 2019.

The aircraft will feature 16 pod-style business-class seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, giving every passenger direct aisle access. The two center seats include adjustable privacy screens. Each business seat converts to a fully lie-flat bed, offers in-seat power and is equipped with an 18-inch touchscreen for entertainment and controls.

WestJet will offer a dine-on-demand meal service in business class, allowing passengers to select meals when they prefer. A turndown service will also be provided for passengers who want assistance preparing their bed for sleep.

A new premium-economy cabin will be included on the Dreamliner. Premium-economy seats provide 38 inches of pitch, in-seat power and 13-inch touchscreens, and the cabin will include self-serve social areas for passengers. The main economy cabin will feature 35-inch seats and 12-inch seat-back monitors for in-flight entertainment.

The airline is also unveiling a refreshed exterior livery and updated wordmark. The new design presents a cleaner, more modern interpretation of WestJet’s logo and branding.

“The introduction of Boeing’s 787-9 Dreamliner, a state-of-the-art aircraft, is the dawn of a new era for WestJet and the next step in our transformation to a global network airline,” said Ed Sims, president and CEO of WestJet.

“The updated livery is modern and dynamic while the interior is world-class, distinctly Canadian and uniquely WestJet. Both reflect WestJet’s transition from a regional airline in 1996 to a new era of connecting Canada with the world and bringing the world to Canada.”
