VLM to End Most International Routes — What Travelers Need to Know

Flemish airline VLM has announced it will suspend nearly all of its international scheduled services to focus on expanding its charter operations. From Antwerp (ANR) the carrier will retain only its services to London City (LCY) and Zürich (ZRH) for the time being.

VLM indicated that several existing routes will be dropped, though some could be reinstated next year if the airline secures replacement aircraft for its aging Fokker 50 turboprops. Among the affected destinations are Birmingham (BHX), Aberdeen (ABZ), Cologne (CGN), Rostock (RLG) and Munich (MUC). Several of these links were launched recently as part of the carrier’s network expansion.

The airline did not provide firm dates for when each route will be discontinued. In a statement VLM said that impacted passengers will be notified directly as soon as possible and will receive a full refund for any cancelled services.

This strategic shift reflects a move to concentrate on charter demand and streamline regular scheduled operations while the fleet transition is evaluated. VLM’s decision comes amid broader industry challenges and changing travel patterns, prompting some regional carriers to reassess route portfolios and aircraft requirements.

Passengers booked on affected flights should monitor communications from the airline and their booking agent for confirmation and refund details. Those needing immediate assistance are advised to contact VLM’s customer service through the contact methods provided at the carrier’s official site.
