Virgin Atlantic has unveiled its redesigned Airbus A330 Upper Class cabins, updated to reflect the style and amenities introduced on the airline’s Boeing 787 fleet.
The program will retrofit all 10 A330 Upper Class cabins, with completion scheduled by early 2018. The revised interiors mirror the layout and design of the 787 product, helping to provide a more consistent business-class experience across Virgin Atlantic’s long-haul fleet.
“We’re investing over $300 billion to improve our customers’ experience of flying with us including a new website, developing a fully WiFi connected fleet and the refit of our Upper Class cabins,” said Mark Anderson, executive vice president at Virgin Atlantic. “Over the next year we’re refitting all 10 of our A330s to offer a more consistent experience across our fleet.”
Key features of the A330 Upper Class refit include a fresh seat design, increased overhead storage, a relocated bar area and individual in-suite touchscreen systems. The cabin will be configured with 31 seats, each offering direct aisle access and a full flat-bed position comparable to the seats installed on the 787.
The new touchscreen technology in every suite brings upgraded in-flight entertainment control and responsiveness, while the expanded overhead bins provide more room for carry-on luggage, reducing the need to gate-check bags and improving passenger convenience.
One notable cabin change is the repositioning of the onboard bar. The bar is being moved adjacent to the Wander Wall in premium economy, creating a more integrated social space between cabin classes. This location encourages interaction while maintaining a dedicated Upper Class environment.
Premium economy receives focused enhancements as part of the retrofit as well. The A330 will introduce the Wander Wall concept in premium economy, a flexible area where customers can stand to stretch their legs, socialize, and enjoy a complimentary in-flight snack. The addition of this space aims to improve passenger comfort on longer flights and increase the perceived value of the premium economy product.
Overall, the A330 upgrades align Virgin Atlantic’s product standards so passengers experience similar styling, seating comfort and amenities whether they fly on an A330 or a 787. Consistency across aircraft types simplifies expectations for frequent travelers and streamlines cabin service delivery for crew members operating different planes.
The refit program is part of a broader investment plan that includes digital improvements and fleet-wide connectivity, designed to modernize the travel experience from booking through arrival. By combining refreshed cabin layouts, updated seating and new social spaces like the Wander Wall, Virgin Atlantic aims to elevate comfort and convenience for both business and premium economy passengers across its long-haul network.
