Both United Airlines and American Airlines announced last week that they are restoring complimentary snacks for economy-class passengers on many domestic and regional routes.
American Airlines will offer Biscoff cookies on transcontinental flights departing before 9:45 a.m., including key routes such as New York (JFK) to Los Angeles (LAX), New York (JFK) to San Francisco (SFO), and Miami (MIA) to Los Angeles (LAX). Flights departing after 9:45 a.m. will provide a choice between Biscoff cookies and pretzels, with seasonal variations planned. In addition, beginning in May, passengers traveling from any point in Hawai’i to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) will receive a complimentary meal.
“We want customers to choose American every time they fly. We are giving our customers more choices to enhance their personal flying experience by offering new service and new entertainment options in all cabins,” said Fernand Fernandez, vice president of global marketing for American Airlines.
United Airlines will serve Stroopwafels, a caramel-filled Dutch wafer, on flights departing before 9:45 a.m. For flights departing after 9:45 a.m., passengers will be offered a choice between two different snack mixes. These complimentary snacks will be available on all flights within North America, on flights to and from Central America, and on routes between Honolulu and Guam. Later this year, United plans to introduce illycaffè Scuro dark roast coffee on all flights.
“For the customer heading home from a business trip and for the family embarking on a long-planned vacation, we are building a new in-flight experience of comfort and familiarity, with complimentary snacks playing a small but important part,” said Jimmy Samartzis, vice president of food services and United Clubs for United Airlines.
