Traverse City, Mich., marks ten years of equestrian tradition with Horse Shows by the Bay, a month-long festival celebrating top-level show jumping. From July 3–28, riders and their horses from across the United States and Canada gather in Traverse City and the nearby village of Williamsburg to compete in a series of events highlighted by four Grand Prix competitions. Sanctioned by the United States Equestrian Federation, the action takes place at the 84-acre Flintfields Horse Park.
Visitors to Traverse City will find much to enjoy beyond the show grounds. The area is famed for its wide beaches at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and offers abundant outdoor recreation, including well-regarded golf courses, lake and river kayaking, and an extensive trail network. One notable addition is the recently opened five-mile Dune Climb to Glen Arbor route, providing scenic hiking opportunities.
Recognized by Bon Appétit as one of America’s top foodie towns, Traverse City boasts a vibrant culinary scene. Local wineries, a growing number of microbreweries, and small-batch distilleries producing vodkas and whiskies complement a wealth of farm-to-table dining options. Together, the equestrian excitement and regional attractions make Horse Shows by the Bay a draw for competitors and visitors seeking sports, outdoor adventure, and local flavor.
