Arrival/Check-In: In December I traveled to California to attend Global Traveler’s 13th annual GT Tested Reader Survey awards gala, held at The Peninsula Beverly Hills. Having visited Beverly Hills only once before and hearing excellent things about the hotel, I was eager for my first overnight stay and to experience the property firsthand.
The hotel exceeded my expectations from the moment I arrived. I was warmly greeted and guided to the tastefully decorated reception area, which was beautifully dressed for the holidays. While waiting for my room, I relaxed in the lobby with a steaming cup of homemade hot apple cider, garnished with a cinnamon stick. After roughly ten minutes, a staff member escorted me to my room where my luggage was already waiting.
Guest Quarters: My deluxe room featured French doors that opened to garden views and filled the space with natural light. Floral-patterned curtains and coordinated accents gave the room a classic, slightly vintage charm while keeping it bright and inviting.
A monogrammed pillowcase bearing my initials sat atop the king-size bed—a small, thoughtful detail that felt personal and special.
The bathroom was generous in size, with a beautiful tub, a separate walk-in shower and ample counter space around a large sink. Bright lighting and full-length mirrors turned the space into an effective dressing area, making it convenient for getting ready for events.
Services/Amenities: After a pleasant rooftop lunch with colleagues, I visited the fitness center. The space was compact but well-equipped and modern: each cardio machine had its own screen, and the weights were arranged in a slightly separated zone for a functional layout. I left the fitness area through the spa and paused to enjoy a refreshing glass of fruit-infused water on my way out.
The Peninsula offers a broad range of services and amenities; although my schedule was tight and I couldn’t sample everything, what I experienced reflected a consistent attention to detail.
TOP TAKEAWAYS:
◆ The hotel combines thoughtful personal touches, attractive holiday décor and a high level of service from staff who clearly take pride in their work.
◆ While checking out, I mentioned to the concierge that I was running late for a return flight. Almost immediately another staff member contacted the doorman and arranged a cab within seconds. Thanks to their swift coordination, I arrived at the airport as boarding began—an example of efficiency and care that left a strong impression.
