Surf Air Launches Unlimited Monthly Flight Service

Travel start-up Surf Air built recognition among frequent flyers by offering unlimited flights to members — a subscription model often described as a “Netflix for air travel.” This fall, Surf Air will expand beyond its California network and begin operating European routes starting in October. Initial European destinations will include London, Zurich, Geneva, Paris, Cannes, Dublin and Ibiza, with additional cities planned to be added later.

Founded in California in 2011, Surf Air currently serves a regional network of 12 destinations within the state, operating roughly 90 flights per day. Popular California stops include Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Francisco and Napa. The service is membership-driven: passengers must enroll before flying. Membership fares cover checked baggage and most associated fees, and flights depart from private terminals, which allows members to check in as little as 15 minutes before departure.

One of Surf Air’s core selling points is the time savings it offers. By avoiding large airport terminals, long security lines and extended boarding procedures, the company estimates that members can shave at least two hours off typical travel routines — a convenience that appeals to business travelers and frequent fliers who prioritize time and efficiency.

Pricing reflects that convenience and the unique model. Although the subscription concept invites comparisons to streaming services, membership fees are substantially higher than typical consumer subscriptions. Individual plans start at around $1,950 per month, a level designed to serve frequent travelers who can justify the cost through regular use.

Surf Air’s fleet and onboard experience aim to match its premium positioning. The company operates twin-engine executive aircraft fitted with custom interiors and leather seating, emphasizing comfort and a more personal travel experience than commercial carriers provide. Operating from private terminals also contributes to a quieter, faster, and more streamlined ground experience for members.

The move into Europe represents a significant step in Surf Air’s strategy to expand its footprint beyond regional U.S. service. Launching routes to major European business and leisure destinations such as London, Paris and Zurich positions the company to attract frequent international travelers who value time savings and a consistent service experience. Additional European cities expected to be added later could broaden the appeal to members who travel across multiple hubs.

As Surf Air grows, the membership model raises practical considerations for travelers thinking about the switch. Potential members should evaluate frequency of travel, typical itinerary flexibility, and how often they would use the service to determine if the subscription cost delivers value. For frequent regional or short-haul travelers, the combination of private terminal access, inclusive baggage, rapid check-in, and premium cabin seating may provide significant benefits that justify the monthly fee.

Surf Air’s expansion aligns with broader trends in aviation where niche operators target specific customer segments with tailored offerings rather than competing directly with large scheduled airlines on price alone. By focusing on convenience, predictability, and a premium experience, Surf Air aims to carve out a durable niche among professionals, high-frequency leisure travelers, and anyone for whom time is a critical resource.
