Southwest Launches New Hawaii Routes — Flights to Oahu, Maui, Kauai

Southwest has launched new service to Hawai‘i beginning in January 2020. The new daily nonstop connects Sacramento (SMF) with Honolulu (HNL). With Southwest’s existing flights from other West Coast cities, travelers in 2020 benefit from more than 15 daily flights between the mainland and the islands.

In addition, Southwest recently added service connecting Kauai (LIH) and the Island of Hawai‘i (ITO), expanding its inter-island network. The airline now operates 34 daily inter-island routes, improving convenience for travelers moving between islands.

Introductory fares between the West Coast and Hawai‘i start at $99 one way, while inter-island fares begin at $29 one way. These fares provide affordable options for both mainland visitors and residents traveling within the state.

“We’re energized by the warm aloha Southwest has enjoyed in response to our initial Hawai‘i offering, and this second wave of service is an investment that broadens our everyday value through low fares, no fees to change tickets (though fare differences may apply), and two checked bags free for everyone,” said Tom Nealon, president of Southwest Airlines. “We’re focused on bringing Hawai‘i an authentically Southwest experience, with comfortable seating for every customer and enhanced in-cabin snacks on flights between Hawai‘i and the mainland.”

The expanded schedule gives travelers more flexibility and options for planning trips to and around the islands. With competitive fares, a wide range of inter-island connections, and Southwest’s baggage and change policies, the airline aims to make travel to Hawai‘i more accessible and straightforward for leisure and visiting family alike.
