The Ritz-Carlton, Guangzhou’s signature Cantonese restaurant Lai Heen has been awarded its first Michelin star in the inaugural Michelin Guide Guangzhou. Only eight restaurants in the city earned this prestigious distinction.
Under the direction of Chef Gordon Guo, Lai Heen showcases refined Cantonese cuisine that highlights seasonal ingredients and careful attention to balance — color and texture, aroma and flavor. The menu evolves regularly, offering contemporary interpretations of classic dishes such as braised shrimp with okra, steamed crab custard and poached sunflower chicken.
The dining room evokes traditional Cantonese style with a sophisticated palette of burgundy and silver, creating a luxurious yet restrained atmosphere. Dishes are presented on fine bone china, and guests are invited to dine with silver-tipped ebony chopsticks, adding to the restaurant’s sense of occasion.
“We are very privileged that Lai Heen has been awarded a star in this first edition of the Michelin Guide Guangzhou,” said Matthias Vogt, general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Guangzhou. “This recognition reflects our commitment to culinary excellence in a city long celebrated as a food capital. It honors the dedication of our Ladies and Gentlemen at The Ritz-Carlton — from the kitchen to front-of-house — who work every day to deliver memorable and exceptional dining experiences.”
The Ritz-Carlton, Guangzhou is the ninth property in the Asia-Pacific region within The Ritz-Carlton portfolio to receive a Michelin star for its dining. Eight other properties in the region hold one star each, while Tin Lung Heen at The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong has been awarded two stars.
