Last month, Southwest Airlines unveiled several new routes that expand its domestic network. New non-stop service will link Los Angeles (LAX) with Pittsburgh (PIT), and San Diego (SAN) will gain daily non-stop flights to Milwaukee (MKE). Sacramento (SMF) will see a new non-stop connection to Baltimore/Washington (BWI), and additional service will be added to Nashville (BNA) and Charlotte (CLT). The carrier is also introducing routes from Portland, Oregon (PDX) to Burbank (BUR) and Ontario (ONT).
In addition to these domestic additions, Southwest plans to launch international non-stop service from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Nassau (NAS), pending foreign government approval.
Announcing the schedule expansion ahead of an industry conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico, David Harvey, managing director of business development for Southwest Airlines, said, “These time-saving routes connect our customers in long-time Southwest cities with faster travel times with our unmatched Customer Service. Each addition also enhances our schedule while addressing business demand.”
Alongside the new routes, Southwest is making several formerly seasonal services permanent year-round. The airline will operate continuous non-stop flights between Houston Hobby Airport and both Seattle/Tacoma (SEA) and Portland (PDX). Year-round service will also continue between Kansas City (MCI) and Seattle/Tacoma, and between San Diego and St. Louis (STL).
These changes reflect Southwest’s broader strategy to shorten travel times, strengthen connectivity between regional markets, and better meet both leisure and business demand. By adding non-stop options and extending seasonal routes to year-round service, the airline aims to provide more consistent schedules and improved convenience for frequent travelers and occasional flyers alike.
Passengers traveling on the new and expanded routes should check Southwest’s official schedule for exact start dates, frequencies, and any travel requirements related to international service. As always, approval from foreign authorities will be required for international flights to commence.
