Sofitel New York has unveiled a major redesign inspired by the shared Art Deco traditions of New York City and Paris, blending contemporary comfort with classic European style.
Dieter Schmitz, general manager of Sofitel New York, described the renovation as “a celebration of New York’s boundless energy and the timeless elegance of our French heritage.” The overhaul includes redesigned guestrooms and suites, a new Penthouse, and the introduction of Social 45, a bar and bistro envisioned as a lively social hub. Schmitz emphasized that the physical transformation is matched by a renewed focus on warm, personalized hospitality to create lasting guest memories.

Guests enter through a grand foyer on 44th Street featuring refined design details: open metal screens, a coffered ceiling with integrated lighting, marble flooring, deep green walls, and white paneling. The lobby also provides a tranquil setting for the nightly Candle Ritual, the signature evening ceremony observed at Sofitel properties around the world.
Design firm HBA San Francisco led the redesign, creating a cohesive aesthetic across public areas, guestrooms, and suites. All 346 guestrooms and 52 suites have been fully reimagined with French-inspired wall paneling, custom furnishings, new textiles, and curated lighting. The bed is a visual centerpiece—an upholstered panel framed by striped wood and paired with sculptural brass pendant lamps. Each room includes Sofitel BED, the brand’s signature sleep system with a proprietary mattress, box spring, topper, duvet, and pillow selection for enhanced comfort.
Upper-floor rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows that frame Manhattan vistas, while marble bathrooms offer rain showers and amenities from Balmain and Diptyque. The renovation emphasizes both style and function, balancing luxurious materials with practical, modern comforts.
The new Suite Collection expands the hotel’s offerings with seven distinctive suites that bring rare, spacious layouts to Manhattan. Highlighting the collection is the 28th-floor Penthouse, which spans 1,205 square feet and showcases bold design and generous living space. Additional standout accommodations include two premier suites on the 24th floor—the Grand Terrace Chrysler View Suite and the Panoramic Terrace Suite—each offering expansive terraces and striking city views.

Social 45, the hotel’s new bar and bistro, operates from morning into late night and pairs French culinary staples with New York–inspired dishes. The venue will host daily Social Hours and aims to become a neighborhood gathering place, with plans to add an outdoor café. Mornings at Social 45 feature La Haute Croissanterie, Sofitel’s signature pastry program, offering freshly baked viennoiserie and coffee.
The hotel’s event and meeting facilities have also been refreshed. The elegant Paris Ballroom and seven additional meeting rooms provide a refined backdrop for gatherings, while a dedicated planning team supports event execution from concept to completion.
Overall, Sofitel New York’s redesign brings together Art Deco influences, French refinement, and contemporary amenities to deliver a sophisticated yet welcoming experience for both leisure and business travelers.
