Serene Lake Sculptures: Outdoor Art Ideas and Placement Tips

Art critic Andrew Graham-Dixon and poet Annie Freud, daughter of the artist Lucian Freud, are among the featured speakers in an upcoming lecture series during Dorset Art Weeks at Sculpture by the Lakes at Pallington Lakes, Dorset. Set across 26 acres of former fisheries along the River Frome, Sculpture by the Lakes was established in 2006 by sculptor Simon Gudgeon and his wife Monique and continues to be a major venue for his work.

On May 23, the site will host a Quick Draw event where 15 regional artists create original pieces live in front of an audience within a 90-minute time limit. The completed works will then be auctioned, with proceeds shared between the artists and Dorset Visual Arts. A limited number of tickets are available through the Sculpture by the Lakes website.

Dorset Art Weeks runs from May 24 through June 8 and showcases roughly 1,000 artists across the UK, with open studios and exhibitions at some 300 locations throughout the county. The festival highlights a wide range of contemporary visual arts and offers visitors many opportunities to meet artists and see new work in person.
