The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC announced in December 2014 that it will open its first property in Rabat, Morocco. The planned hotel will offer 100 guestrooms, 15 one-bedroom suites and five two-bedroom suites, combining contemporary comforts with local character.
Hervé Humler, president and chief operating officer of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, said the project benefits from Rabat’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage city and its unique setting within a golf estate. He emphasized that this combination creates a compelling destination for well-traveled guests who seek cultural authenticity alongside luxury amenities.
In addition to the Rabat property, the company has outlined further expansion across the region. These plans include The Ritz-Carlton, Tunis, Carthage—a resort with 129 suites—and a Ritz-Carlton Reserve at Tamuda Bay. The Tamuda Bay Reserve is proposed as a high-end resort featuring 98 guestrooms, 35 suites, a beach club and an 18-hole golf course designed to appeal to leisure and golf travelers alike.
These developments reflect The Ritz-Carlton’s ongoing strategy to grow its presence in North Africa, offering a mix of luxury accommodation, resort facilities and culturally informed design. By situating properties in distinctive coastal and historic locations, the brand aims to attract affluent international travelers seeking both relaxation and a connection to the destination.
Each new property is expected to combine The Ritz-Carlton’s signature service standards with locally inspired elements—architecture, culinary offerings and cultural programming—so guests experience a sense of place while enjoying modern luxury. The combination of UNESCO heritage, destination golf and beachfront settings positions these projects to appeal to discerning travelers, families and golf enthusiasts.
As development progresses, The Ritz-Carlton’s entries in Rabat, Tunis and Tamuda Bay are expected to contribute to the region’s upscale hospitality landscape, creating jobs and supporting local tourism initiatives while providing travelers with luxury accommodations tailored to the character of each location.
