Passengers on Qantas domestic flights will soon be able to stream content from Foxtel, Netflix and Spotify using the airline’s complimentary in-flight WiFi. Even better, you won’t need an active paid subscription to enjoy these services while flying.
Access lengths vary by provider. Foxtel will grant three days of free access each time a customer flies with Qantas. Netflix content will be available through a 30-day free trial for new members; existing Netflix subscribers can sign in and view content without additional charge. Spotify is offering a 30-day trial of its Premium service, which enables ad-free listening.
To take advantage of the Netflix and Spotify trials, travelers must register for the respective trial subscriptions. Foxtel’s offering does not require a sign-up for the complimentary in-flight access.
“We know that email, online shopping and general web browsing will be popular uses when we switch on WiFi, but what a lot of people relish about flying is being able to catch up on their favorite TV shows or watch movies they didn’t get to see at the cinema,” said Olivia Wirth, group executive of brand, marketing and corporate affairs at Qantas. “Foxtel and Netflix both have extensive, continually growing catalogues, so there will be no shortage of entertainment on board.”
The new arrangement aims to improve the in-flight experience by giving travelers a range of streaming options for video and music without needing to rely on downloaded content. With free access or trial periods available, passengers can stream shows, movies and playlists during the flight and, in some cases, for a limited time after landing. This simplifies planning for longer journeys, reduces the need to pre-download media, and offers flexibility for spontaneous viewing and listening choices.
Qantas’ rollout of complimentary WiFi streaming aligns with broader trends in aviation, where airlines increasingly focus on connectivity and digital services to enhance passenger satisfaction. By partnering with major content providers, Qantas positions itself to offer a more modern, entertainment-forward experience on domestic routes.
Travelers should be aware of a few practical details: streaming quality may vary depending on bandwidth availability on any given flight, and device compatibility or app requirements could affect how content is accessed. For Netflix and Spotify trials, travelers must follow the providers’ sign-up procedures to activate the trial periods, and standard trial terms and conditions will apply.
Overall, the addition of Foxtel, Netflix and Spotify to Qantas’ complimentary in-flight WiFi represents a meaningful upgrade to the onboard entertainment options, giving passengers convenient, flexible access to a wide variety of TV shows, films and music while traveling.
