Hotel La Compañia, the first The Unbound Collection by Hyatt property in Central America, has finished the final phase of its seven-year restoration with the opening of the American Wing. This addition completes the hotel’s transformation into a living museum, highlighting the American period of Panama’s Canal era and expanding the property’s food and beverage offerings.

“The debut of the American Wing is an exciting time for our team,” said Fidel Reyes, general manager. “When we set out to shape the hotel experience, the building’s layout and architecture guided our decisions. We worked carefully to preserve the structure’s historical integrity while introducing modern comforts. The result, alongside the Spanish and French Colonial Wings, tells a compelling story about Panama through art, design and hospitality.”
The property sits within a UNESCO World Heritage site and celebrates Panama’s layered history. The main section of Hotel La Compañia traces back to a 17th-century Jesuit convent, while the American Wing is the most recent addition, occupying a building that began life as an upscale department store in 1904. The new wing also adds 23 guestrooms to the hotel’s inventory.

The American Wing brings four distinct dining and drinking concepts to the hotel. American Bazaar, named in tribute to the original department store, recreates a classic North American marketplace experience. Luigi’s offers traditional Italian cuisine in an intimate setting, while Capella, the rooftop bar, provides panoramic views of the city and a relaxed atmosphere for cocktails. Hari’s features Nikkei-inspired dishes and is furnished with signature pieces from 1980s designer Harry Segil, blending culinary creativity with vintage design.
With the American Wing now open, Hotel La Compañia completes a cohesive narrative across its architectural wings—Spanish, French Colonial and American—each reflecting different chapters of Panama’s cultural and historical legacy. The restoration emphasizes careful conservation, local craftsmanship and thoughtful design, delivering an immersive guest experience that honors the past while offering contemporary amenities.
Guests can expect a curated stay that weaves history into every detail, from restored architectural elements and period-inspired interiors to modern comforts and a diverse culinary program. The expansion reinforces Hotel La Compañia’s position as a landmark destination in Panama City, where visitors can explore rich heritage, refined hospitality and a variety of dining experiences under one roof.
