Norwegian has launched a new non-stop route connecting London Gatwick (LGW) and Rio de Janeiro–Galeão (GIG). The service begins on March 31, 2019, operating four times weekly on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and is operated using a brand-new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
“We’re expanding our global network by launching our first flights to Brazil and opening South America to more travelers. Our new Rio de Janeiro route challenges the monopoly on direct flights between the United Kingdom and Brazil. We’re committed to lowering fares and making travel more affordable for leisure and business passengers alike,” said Bjørn Kjos, CEO of Norwegian.
This South America expansion builds on Norwegian’s existing Buenos Aires (EZE) service. Due to strong demand, the Buenos Aires route has been increased from four weekly flights to daily service.
“Norwegian’s launch in Brazil has the potential to be a milestone for Brazilian tourism. Improved connectivity with affordable services is essential for increasing visitor numbers, creating jobs and stimulating the Brazilian economy,” said Vinicius Lummertz, Brazil’s minister of tourism.
