Norwegian Air Approved to Offer Steeply Discounted Flights

Last month the Federal Aviation Administration granted approval for discount carrier Norwegian Air to begin transatlantic service to and from the United States. The new routes will connect multiple cities in Ireland, Scotland, and Norway with U.S. airports in the Northeast.

Anders Lindström, Norwegian Air’s director of communications, said the airline will soon announce specific routes, start dates, and fares for its transatlantic 737 MAX operations. The carrier aims to provide low-cost nonstop service between Europe and the United States using its single-aisle fleet.

Service will be operated using seven Boeing 737-800 aircraft and will serve Stewart International Airport in New York, T.F. Green Airport in Rhode Island, and Bradley International Airport in Connecticut. Flights are planned to originate from Belfast (BFS), Bergen (BGO), Dublin (DUB), Cork (ORK), Shannon (SNN), and Edinburgh (EDI).

Norwegian Air says it intends to offer some of the most affordable nonstop fares between the U.S. and Europe, aiming to make transatlantic travel more accessible for American passengers.
