Nobu Hospitality, the global lifestyle brand founded by Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro and Meir Teper, will open its fourth hotel and restaurant in Spain—Nobu Hotel and Restaurant San Sebastián—in spring 2023.
Known for its focus on cuisine, local culture and distinctive design, Nobu is a natural fit for San Sebastián. The city, capital of Gipuzkoa province, has one of the world’s highest concentrations of Michelin-starred restaurants. San Sebastián also hosts the first Balenciaga atelier and was a creative home for Ernest Hemingway while he wrote Fiesta. In the Basque Country, food and culture are inseparable; visitors explore the town hopping between bars and restaurants to sample pintxos, the region’s celebrated bite-sized dishes.
“The partnership with Nobu Hospitality and launch of Nobu Hotel and Restaurant San Sebastián further places the region on the map as the ultimate gourmet hotspot,” said Javier Illán Plaza, president and CEO of Millenium Hospitality Real Estate. “I am thrilled to be working with the brand to make this opening one of Spain’s most exciting for 2023, which will be embraced by residents and visitors alike.”

Perched above La Concha Bay, Nobu Hotel and Restaurant San Sebastián is scheduled to open in March 2023. The property will offer 20 thoughtfully designed guestrooms and suites alongside a 98-seat Nobu restaurant that showcases panoramic views of the water and city. The hotel is a full renovation of the historic Palacio Vista Eder, built in 1912 and designed by noted Spanish architect Francisco Urcola.
“San Sebastián is an exciting location for the brand as good quality food is intrinsic to the destination. We are so pleased to be partnering with Javier Illán Plaza on this project and to be opening our fourth hotel and restaurant in Spain, bringing the Nobu cuisine to a new audience of residents and travelers,” said Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro and Meir Teper in a joint statement.
The new Nobu in San Sebastián reinforces the brand’s commitment to destinations where culinary excellence and thoughtful design are central to the guest experience. Combining locally inspired touches with Nobu’s signature menu, the opening is positioned to attract both international travelers and local residents seeking elevated dining and hospitality on Spain’s northern coast.
