New Luxury Safari Lodge Opens in Kenya’s Maasai Mara

African stylist Annemarie Meintjes and architects Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens of nature-focused Ink Design Lab led the design of the newly opened Angama Mara, a luxury safari lodge perched above the Rift Valley in Kenya’s wildlife-rich Maasai Mara. The lodge is served by a private hard-top airfield and comprises two separate camps. Each camp features 15 glass-fronted tented suites placed along the edge of the Ololoolo escarpment, offering breathtaking views across the Mara Triangle.

The suites feature polished parquet floors and private decks that appear to hover above the Mara landscape. Beyond game drives, night safaris and guided walks, guests can experience a hot-air balloon flight over the reserve, browse a curated library that includes titles such as Ernest Hemingway’s Green Hills of Africa, or exercise while watching wildlife roam the plains. The lodge also offers a 40-foot swimming pool and a curated selection of African art, clothing and jewelry displayed in a gallery-style setting. Local craftswomen work in a sunlit onsite studio where they can add hand-beaded embellishments to purchases, providing guests with unique, locally made souvenirs.
