After six years of extensive renovations and temporary closure, Monaco’s iconic Exotic Garden has officially reopened to the public. Perched above the Mediterranean, this cliffside garden is one of Monaco’s most distinctive outdoor attractions, prized for its panoramic views and a remarkable collection of succulents and other exotic plants from around the world.
The restoration project focused on stabilizing rock faces, redesigning pathways, and improving overall accessibility and safety for visitors. The updated layout also introduces modernized visitor facilities and refreshed spaces designed to enhance the visitor experience while preserving the garden’s unique character.

Established in 1933, the Jardin Exotique now houses more than 1,000 plant species, with strong representation from Latin and North America, South and Central Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula. The garden’s seasonal changes reveal new botanical highlights throughout the year, offering repeat visitors fresh discoveries at every visit. The site also includes the Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology, which complements the garden experience with cultural and scientific context.
Below the terraced gardens lies the Grotte de l’Observatoire, a cave discovered in 1916 and reached by a long staircase that descends through galleries lined with limestone formations. Guided tours lead visitors through caverns filled with stalactites, stalagmites and towering columns that formed over millennia, providing clear explanations of the geological processes at work. The Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology displays artifacts recovered from the cave, documenting evidence of prehistoric human activity in the area and placing the garden within a broader historical and natural framework.
With the reopening, the Exotic Garden once again welcomes nature lovers, families and visitors seeking both spectacular coastal vistas and an impressive botanical collection. Enhanced pathways and visitor amenities make the site more accessible, while careful restoration work preserves the dramatic cliffside setting and the scientific, educational and cultural values that have defined the Jardin Exotique for decades.
