Following a formal Centennial Proclamation with Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Lawrence Horwitz, executive vice president of Historic Hotels of America, the hotel has unveiled displays throughout its public spaces that spotlight its century-long history. The exhibits feature photographs, artifacts and mementos that trace the hotel’s role in political, cultural and social life in the capital.
To complement the historical displays, the hotel’s culinary team has introduced a collection of centennial cocktails. Highlights include the Mayflower’s Bathtub Gin, a floral and botanical mix of gin with violet, Luxardo and St. Germain; a Vieux Carré crafted with barrel-picked WhistlePig, fat-washed barrel cognac, sweet vermouth and Creole-style bitters; and the hotel’s signature Old-Fashioned, now made with a 10-year WhistlePig blend created exclusively for The Mayflower.
