Late last month, the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina unveiled the completion of its multi-million-dollar expansion at the two-tower hotel overlooking the marina. The project expands meeting capacity, enlarges the grand foyer, and adds approximately 85,000 square feet of new outdoor space, including enhancements to the Marina Walk that links the property and the bay to downtown San Diego.
The new marina terrace spans more than 27,000 square feet and is designed to host large outdoor events such as weddings, corporate receptions, and private parties. The expanded terrace offers flexible layouts, scenic views of the waterfront, and modern amenities to support both intimate gatherings and large-scale celebrations.
Inside the hotel, newly reimagined ballrooms offer versatile configurations to meet diverse event needs. The largest ballroom areas can accommodate roughly 3,700 guests each and can be subdivided into smaller spaces, with the option to split the area into up to 12 separate ballrooms for concurrent events. These elegant yet functional event spaces feature upgraded audiovisual systems and design elements that reflect the locale, including a mural of the San Diego coastline embellished with Swarovski crystals.
With more than 1,300 guest rooms, the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina continues to be a preferred choice for business travelers and event planners. Its close proximity to the San Diego Convention Center, combined with straightforward access to downtown attractions and the waterfront, makes it a convenient hub for conferences, trade shows, and leisure stays alike.
The expansion enhances both indoor and outdoor offerings to better serve meetings, social events, and leisure guests. New outdoor promenades and improved pedestrian connections along Marina Walk strengthen the hotel’s relationship with the surrounding waterfront and downtown neighborhoods, creating more opportunities for guests to enjoy San Diego’s mild climate and harbor views.
Overall, the project balances functionality and luxury—delivering larger event capacities, contemporary amenities, and expanded outdoor venues—while preserving the hotel’s reputation as an adaptable and prominent waterfront destination in San Diego.
