It happens just once a year. From May 8–14, Montreal’s signature shopping event, La Virée des Ateliers, takes over Rue Parthenais in the city’s center. Around 100 established and emerging local artists and artisans open their studios to the public, offering a rare chance to see creative workspaces and meet the people behind the pieces.
The neighborhood, known for its lively arts community, is home to converted textile mills that now serve as studios and workshops, including spaces such as Le Chat des Artistes and The Grover Building. Visitors can browse and buy a wide variety of handmade items: original fashion designs, photography, jewelry, fine art, hand-blown glass, ceramics, and leather goods. The event blends discovery with direct access to makers, making it a great opportunity to find unique gifts and support local creatives.
After exploring the studios, stop by Maison Christian Faure in Old Montreal to pick up exclusive pastries. This limited-edition pastry collection is the result of a collaboration between menswear designer Denis Gagnon and Chef Christian Faure. These couture-style sweets are available at Maison Christian Faure for a short time, so plan your visit while they’re still offered.
La Virée des Ateliers is a highlight of Montreal’s cultural calendar, inviting both residents and visitors to engage directly with the city’s creative scene. With its mix of studio visits, one-of-a-kind goods, and culinary treats nearby, the event offers a full day of inspiration and discovery.
