Lufthansa Subsidiary Launches New U.S. Routes: Cities & Dates Revealed

Eurowings, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, is expanding its long-haul network from Cologne/Bonn (CGN) with two new seasonal routes to the United States. Beginning in the summer of 2017, the airline will add scheduled services to Orlando (MCO) and Seattle (SEA), further complementing its existing U.S. offerings.

The Orlando service will operate twice weekly, with departures on Wednesdays and Saturdays beginning July 8, 2017. The Seattle route will be flown three times per week — on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays — starting July 11, 2017. Both routes are planned as summer seasonal operations, joining Eurowings’ other seasonal transatlantic flights.

These new additions build on Eurowings’ current U.S. network from Cologne/Bonn, which already includes flights to Las Vegas (LAS), Miami (MIA) and Boston (BOS) during the summer season. Cologne/Bonn serves as the airline’s long-haul base, while an extensive European and domestic feeder network connects passengers from many other German and European airports to the long-haul departures at CGN.

Since launching its long-haul services in November of the previous year, Eurowings has reported that more than 420,000 passengers have traveled onward to other continents via its long-haul flights. The carrier positions these routes to serve both leisure travelers and those connecting from regional points across its network.

In addition to its U.S. expansion, Eurowings operates long-haul services to a range of leisure destinations. The airline currently serves Havana (HAV) and Varadero (VRA) in Cuba, as well as Punta Cana (PUJ) and Puerto Plata (POP) in the Dominican Republic. Further growth of the long-haul schedule was planned for the same summer season, with new services announced to Mauritius (MRU) and Bangkok (BKK).

By increasing its long-haul offerings from Cologne/Bonn, Eurowings aims to enhance choice and connectivity for travelers across Europe while continuing to focus on key leisure and holiday markets. The combination of seasonal transatlantic routes and a comprehensive feeder network supports travel demand during peak periods and helps position Cologne/Bonn as an important gateway for the airline’s intercontinental services.
