Lufthansa is launching a new way to monitor checked luggage. The German carrier will introduce digital bag tags that attach to suitcases and track belongings from check-in through baggage claim and every step in between.
If a bag doesn’t arrive at its intended destination, Lufthansa’s system will notify the passenger by text message with details about the situation. Instead of waiting at baggage claim only to discover a missing bag and then facing a lengthy process at the service desk, travelers can see where their luggage is via the app and request delivery to a preferred location once it reaches the airport.
To help passengers avoid lines and save time, travelers can print bag tags at home and use airport self-service kiosks to drop off checked luggage, bypassing the traditional check-in counter queues.
By combining electronic bag monitoring with streamlined bag-drop options, Lufthansa aims to reduce stress and make travel more pleasant. The convenient bag-drop and digital tagging service is being made available at Frankfurt Airport, Munich Airport and Düsseldorf Airport.
