The Phoenix desert cools into pleasant autumn just in time for the Lost Lake Festival, running Oct. 19–21. This three-day celebration blends live music, food, art and games, and is produced by the team behind major festivals such as Bonnaroo and Outside Lands.
While in town, visit the Phoenix Art Museum for several new exhibitions. Through Dec. 2, the Asian Gallery presents “Modern Simplicity: Selected Gifts from Elaine and Sidney Cohen.” The show highlights traditional Japanese ceramics crafted by modern artists, illustrating how innovations in glazes, kilns and clay have reshaped ceramic practice.
Also on view through Oct. 14 is “To Be Thirteen: Photographs and Videos by Betsy Schneider” in the Norton Photography Gallery. This project resulted from Schneider’s nationwide effort to document the experience of being 13, featuring work by 250 young people. The installation includes 40 large-scale photographic prints, eight video projections and an archive of artworks created by the former 13-year-olds appearing in the exhibition.
