In airline lounge news, on Jan. 17, American Airlines opened a new 14,500-square-foot Flagship Lounge with sit-down dining in Terminal 4 at Los Angeles International Airport. The space features elevated dining and a comfortable environment for premium customers. American Express also announced plans to open a two-level, 15,000-square-foot post-security Centurion Lounge in Terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy International Airport in early 2019. Centurion Lounges already operate at numerous major airports, including New York’s LaGuardia, Las Vegas McCarran, Dallas/Fort Worth, San Francisco, Seattle-Tacoma, Miami, Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental, Philadelphia and Hong Kong International Airport.

On Jan. 18, Incheon Airport in Seoul, South Korea, officially opened its new Terminal 2, now serving Korean Air and its joint venture partners Delta Air Lines, Air France and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. The terminal is designed to handle up to 18 million passengers annually and incorporates advanced automated services, including self-service check-in and bag drops. It features 37 gates and several airline lounges, catering to both transit and origin-destination travelers.
The new terminal emphasizes a blend of convenience and experience. Passengers can enjoy a range of amenities such as a pre-security enclosed observation deck, expanded dining and retail options, a post-security transit hotel and a pre-security capsule hotel. Cultural experience centers showcase local heritage, while entertainment offerings include performance stages and a large children’s play area.
Technology and interactive attractions are prominent throughout Terminal 2. An IT Experience Zone provides virtual-reality flying experiences, and a Space Dome offers immersive displays. Travelers can also encounter service robots that prepare coffee and other beverages, adding a modern touch to passenger services. Together, these features aim to make Incheon Airport a destination that balances efficiency with engaging experiences for travelers of all ages.
