There’s a new scent arriving at Japan Airlines’ lounges. Starting Sept. 20, the carrier is enhancing the lounge environment with carefully selected aroma oils designed to promote relaxation and comfort.
The fragrance blends were created by aroma expert Midori Makishima together with professional perfumer Chihiro Murai. The natural, calming aromas highlight ingredients sourced from across Japan: hinoki (Japanese cypress) from Nagano Prefecture, hinoki leaf from Aomori Prefecture, pine needle from Hokkaido and Gifu Prefectures, and yuzu from Kochi Prefecture. The result is a subtle, regionally inspired scent profile intended to soothe travelers as they wait for boarding.
Japan Airlines says the initiative aims to foster a more graceful and restful atmosphere in its domestic lounges, giving customers a greater sense of peace of mind while they relax before flights. The introduction of the aroma oils begins at Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND), then expands to Tokyo Narita (NRT) and Sapporo Chitose (CTS), with plans to extend the scent program across the carrier’s main airport lounges throughout Japan.
The rollout underscores the airline’s focus on improving the passenger experience through small but meaningful touches—combining traditional Japanese botanicals with contemporary fragrance design to create an inviting lounge ambiance.
