Qatar Airways added its first Airbus A380 to the fleet this week, taking delivery of the aircraft at the Airbus facility in Hamburg, Germany.
At the delivery event, Akbar Al Baker, group chief executive of Qatar Airways, described the occasion as the culmination of more than a decade of planning. “We are delighted to introduce a new passenger experience,” he said, emphasizing the airline’s focus on a distinct, carefully designed cabin environment.
Al Baker noted that this A380 is unique to Qatar Airways. “We have completely redesigned every element, giving it a signature touch not seen before on board,” he said. He also highlighted that Hamad International Airport in Doha — the airline’s hub — was developed with the A380 in mind and features five contact gates dedicated to the type, which helps ensure a smooth and efficient passenger experience.
The aircraft seats 517 passengers across two full-length decks in a tri-class layout: eight seats in First Class, 48 in Business Class and 461 in Economy. First Class offers an expansive 90-inch pitch and fully flat beds. Business Class provides a 52-inch pitch and seats that recline into fully flat beds, ensuring comfort for long-haul travel.
Qatar Airways has ordered 10 Airbus A380-800s and plans to receive four of them before the end of the year as it expands long-haul capacity and enhances its premium product offering.
