IHG Expands Kimpton Boutique Hotels to Rotterdam

IHG has announced the signing of Kimpton Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2022 and will become the second Kimpton property in the country, occupying the historic POST building that once served as the city’s main post office.

The development plans call for more than 200 guestrooms, with Omnam Group spearheading the project and handling the hotel’s opening.

“Rotterdam is the second-largest city in the Netherlands, growing in popularity with both domestic and international visitors and developing a vibrant leisure scene. It is an excellent fit for our Kimpton brand, whose warm, personalized service and striking design will resonate with this energetic city. We’ve seen in Amsterdam how well our luxury boutique offering has been received in Europe, and this new signing reinforces Kimpton’s international expansion,” said Karin Sheppard, Managing Director for Europe at IHG.

David Zisser, Founder and CEO of Omnam Group, added: “The magnificent POST building calls for a carefully tailored approach to design and hospitality. The Kimpton brand and philosophy are a perfect match. We believe POST will become an international landmark where guests from around the world will come to stay and enjoy.”

Kimpton Rotterdam will bring boutique luxury to a prominent, historically significant structure, blending contemporary hospitality with the building’s architectural character. The project emphasizes design-led public spaces and guest rooms that reflect both Kimpton’s signature style and Rotterdam’s dynamic urban identity. As development progresses, the hotel is expected to contribute to the city’s growing appeal as a leisure and cultural destination.

Omnam Group’s involvement signals a focused approach to preserving the building’s heritage while delivering a modern hotel experience. With over 200 rooms planned, Kimpton Rotterdam aims to serve a range of travelers, from international tourists to local visitors seeking distinctive accommodations and engaging public areas. The conversion of the former post office into a boutique hotel highlights a broader trend of adaptive reuse of historic properties, combining conservation with contemporary hospitality needs.

As Kimpton continues to expand across Europe, the Rotterdam signing underscores the brand’s strategy of entering key cities that offer strong tourism appeal and cultural vibrancy. The opening of Kimpton Rotterdam will mark a significant addition to the city’s hotel landscape, offering a new option for travelers seeking personalized service, curated design, and a central location housed within an iconic building.
