ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: After a short taxi ride from the airport, we arrived at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines and completed a quick, efficient check-in. We were escorted to Suite 3102, one of the resort’s Lone Star Suites. Since we were meeting family later for drinks and dinner, it was nice to settle into the room and relax for a bit before the evening.

GUEST QUARTERS: The suite felt spacious and thoughtfully laid out. A short entry hallway opened onto a living and dining area on the left and, to the right, a large bathroom and a separate bedroom. The living area featured a built-in dining table positioned near sliding glass doors that led to a porch with views across the property. Toward the hallway, a second built-in unit held a coffee table and a large flat-screen TV on the opposite wall. A Nespresso machine sat on a small bar that included a refrigerator, and housekeeping supplied bottled water daily—welcome on days when temperatures topped 100 degrees.
The bathroom offered both a tub and a separate glass-enclosed shower, plus a marble-top vanity with sink. The toiletries were provided by Pharmacopia. Outside the bathroom, there was a practical dressing area with space for luggage, a security safe, additional drawers and storage, hangers and a mirror. A door beside this area led into the bedroom, which had a king-sized bed and another large flat-screen TV.

SERVICES/AMENITIES: The lobby bar provided a relaxed spot for a pre-dinner cocktail before heading upstairs to Stories Ranch Kitchen, where we hosted a dinner for five. The menu focuses on steaks and Texas Wagyu; one guest even sampled South Texas antelope. Maude’s Bar & Terrace sits just outside the lobby, with several firepits and comfortable seating—ideal for cooling off in the evening with a drink. Breakfast is served at Heartwood House, which has a warm, ranch-style atmosphere and attentive service even during busy mornings.
The resort’s grounds invite outdoor time: a shaded walk leads down to the Colorado River, and nearby corrals house longhorns and other animals. The resident alpacas are friendly—be sure to say hello to Maui and Sonic. For a fun twist, guests can arrange to have room service delivered to a ground-floor patio and enjoy breakfast with the alpacas nearby. And on hot Texas days, the pool complex and lazy river are perfect for cooling off while enjoying sunshine and resort views.
TOP TAKEAWAYS:
- Location worked perfectly for our family wedding, held just across the street at the Austin Alpaca Playhouse.
- The hotel arranged a driver for us, which was helpful since rideshares can be inconsistent; the driver made travel to and from the airport easy.
- Bartenders at the Roadhouse showcased creative craft cocktails and attentive service.
