How to Choose the Right Partner for a Lasting Relationship

Etihad Airways has launched Etihad Airways Partners, a new brand that brings together several like-minded carriers to deliver broader networks, improved schedules and enhanced frequent flyer benefits.

Introduced with six founding members — airberlin, Air Serbia, Air Seychelles, India’s Jet Airways, Darwin Airline and Etihad Airways — Etihad Airways Partners is open to any airline, including those already in other alliances; for example, airberlin maintains membership in oneworld while participating in this partner group.

“We are broadening our business model to articulate and define a partner proposition for like-minded airlines which will result in synergies and efficiencies for participating airlines on the one side, and enhanced network choice, service and frequent flyer benefits for the consumer on the other,” said James Hogan, president and CEO of Etihad Airways. “The Etihad Airways Partners logo will act as a seal of excellence and global cooperation. It will appear on aircraft and branded materials used by a group of carriers working together to connect travelers around the world, while increasingly harmonizing standards both in the air and on the ground.”

By creating this partner framework, Etihad intends to make travel more convenient for passengers through coordinated schedules and improved connectivity. Participating airlines can offer customers access to a wider range of destinations and more seamless transfer options, while aligning frequent flyer programs to provide clearer and more valuable benefits across carriers.

For airlines, membership in Etihad Airways Partners aims to unlock operational and commercial advantages. Shared resources, coordinated planning and joint marketing efforts can reduce costs and improve utilization of aircraft and staff. The collaborative approach also helps smaller carriers extend their reach by linking into Etihad’s global network, and gives larger partners the flexibility to work with selected airlines without committing to a full alliance.

Customers should expect a more consistent travel experience as partner airlines work to harmonize service standards, lounge access, baggage policies and other aspects of travel. Over time, further integration of frequent flyer earn and redemption rules may result in stronger loyalty benefits, making it easier to accumulate and use miles across the partner group.

Etihad Airways Partners represents a flexible alternative to traditional airline alliances, enabling carriers to form targeted relationships based on mutual commercial interests and complementary networks. As the group grows, travelers can anticipate expanded choices and improved connectivity without the need for a single, dominant alliance structure.
