Now through Sept. 30, guests can experience winter sports at one of South America’s most luxurious ski destinations in the Chilean Andes. Hotel Termas Chillán, set in the Andean foothills, announced it will welcome visitors from June through Sept. 30 for the 2023 southern hemisphere ski season. This 60,000-square-foot ski-in/ski-out resort sits in the heart of Termas de Chillán, an area renowned for its relaxing thermal hot springs. Skiers and snowboarders will find the country’s most varied terrain here, from above-treeline powder bowls and natural half-pipes to off-piste trails and South America’s longest run, the 8-mile Las Tres Marías.
Since opening in 1997, Hotel Termas Chillán completed a full renovation in 2019 that refreshed both its facilities and brand identity. Architect Rodrigo Caldera and interior designer Ricardo Cuevas reimagined the resort’s look and function, drawing inspiration from the surrounding forest. Their redesign focuses on refined, woodsy aesthetics and traveler comfort, integrating sustainable materials—native woods, valley stones and Chilean copper—to blend the outdoors with interior spaces. Artisanal furnishings and handcrafted pieces give the property an unmistakable Chilean character.

“Today, Hotel Termas Chillán is both cozier and more upscale while preserving an authentic Chilean identity,” said José Francisco Muñoz, general manager. “The location is privileged for its natural environment, unique in Chile. Our goal is to elevate guests’ experiences and support the destination’s tourism, which underpins our new brand.”
Positioned between forest and peak, the resort’s 113 guestrooms and suites were redesigned to maximize tranquility and comfort. Each room reflects the mountain setting with a rustic yet sophisticated style, while modern amenities ensure a seamless, restorative stay for every traveler.

The resort’s Arboleda restaurant, decorated with branch-inspired touches, centers its dining concept on the sensation of eating beneath the trees. Menus change seasonally and highlight premium local ingredients across breakfast, lunch and dinner. The culinary team combines classic recipes with inventive preparations that honor the mountain’s flavors, creating memorable multisensory meals. Bar La Grieta complements the dining experience with craft cocktails and locally inspired small plates, while Muffin Café offers coffee, hot chocolate and grab-and-go options for guests on the move.
Guests seeking relaxation can visit Alunco, a three-floor spa and one of Chile’s largest mountain wellness centers. Named for the reflection of water, the spa’s design is inspired by hidden highland lagoons and references mountain moss and rock textures throughout its architecture. Facilities include a heated indoor/outdoor pool, hydrotherapy circuits, steam room, sauna, Scottish showers, a yoga studio and two floors of treatment rooms. The spa menu features more than 25 therapies—massages, facials and body treatments—using local ingredients such as volcanic ash mud baths and private Jacuzzis with salt therapy.

For those who prefer alternatives to downhill skiing, the resort offers a variety of complimentary activities, including guided snowshoe hikes, painting workshops, snow games, coffee tastings, aqua-gym and visits to nearby thermal baths. Snowmobiling and select guided excursions are available for an additional fee.
Rates per person, per night, begin at $700 in June and July, $600 in August and $500 in September. Packages include accommodations, lift tickets, meals, organized activities, kids club access and use of the spa’s pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, heated indoor/outdoor pool and steam rooms. Special rates apply for children under 12. Hotel Termas Chillán is located roughly 300 miles south of Santiago; recommended travel options from Santiago include flights, train service or driving.
