This year Holland America Line celebrates its 20th anniversary of sailing to Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas. To mark the milestone, the island has been upgraded with several new features and enhancements designed to elevate the guest experience.
One of the standout additions is the Lobster Shack, a casual dining option offering fresh lobster prepared barbecue-style for a modest fee. Signature dishes include grilled lobster paired with Caribbean coconut beans and rice, and a rum-jerk butter glaze served with pineapple and Caribbean sofrito salsas. Beverage service has also been expanded: three new bars now serve cocktails and other refreshments, complementing the newly renovated Captain Morgan on the Rocks bar.

The island’s activity lineup has been expanded with a variety of water sports and equipment. New Sunfish sailboats and Hobie catamarans are available for guests who want to sail, while Aqua Cycle trikes, Aqua Trax WaveRunners, paddleboats, stand-up paddleboards and upgraded snorkel gear offer options for different skill levels and interests. Horseback riding has been enhanced with 14 additional horses and two new grazing pastures to better support this popular excursion.
For visitors seeking privacy and comfort, the island’s cabanas and two-story villas have been refreshed with new paint, updated furnishings and contemporary décor, creating a more comfortable and stylish retreat.
The 2016/2017 Caribbean itineraries that call on Half Moon Cay include round-trip sailings from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, aboard several Holland America Line ships, offering guests a wide range of cruise options to experience the island’s renewed offerings.
