Hilton Head Wellness Guide: Local Tips for Active Living

South Carolina’s Hilton Head Island is widely known for its beautiful beaches and world-class golf, but it’s also an excellent destination for health and fitness. At Hilton Head Health (H3), visitors can start the New Year with a focused program to improve their fitness, nutrition and golf skills. Led by Keith Bach, director of golf instruction, and Danielle Dunn, fitness director, H3’s golf, fitness and nutrition offerings are designed to refine eating habits and elevate on-course performance through a balanced combination of classes and personalized coaching.

The H3 curriculum includes Pilates for Flexibility, golf-specific conditioning and yoga, all aimed at improving core strength, flexibility and balance. Personal trainers assess each guest and design individualized plans to target specific needs, whether that means increasing mobility, preventing injury or optimizing swing mechanics. Guests receive a comprehensive health assessment on arrival and enjoy unlimited access to more than 20 fitness classes daily. The program also features group discussions, seminars and cooking demonstrations that teach practical nutrition strategies and healthier meal preparation.

Golf instruction at H3 focuses on fundamental swing theory and the technical adjustments each player requires. Keith Bach and the golf team provide daily on-course sessions to help golfers apply lessons in real playing conditions. Participants can choose from private lessons, group clinics and three-day golf schools to match their goals and skill levels.

Executive Chef Jennifer Welper oversees H3’s culinary program, bringing formal culinary nutrition training from Johnson & Wales University and Certified Executive Chef credentials from the American Culinary Federation. The food program emphasizes gourmet spa cuisine that supports wellness goals while remaining flavorful and satisfying, with balanced meals tailored to the program’s nutritional principles.

The 800-acre gated resort sits within Shipyard Plantation and offers a range of accommodations from private rooms to two- and three-bedroom condominiums. Programs run year-round, and pricing varies according to program length and accommodation choice.
