Located in the Sierra Foothills, The Holbrooke in Grass Valley and The National Exchange Hotel in Nevada City welcome summer visitors with a lively Spring Gold getaway that celebrates the region’s Gold Rush heritage.
Both properties, recognized with the 2025 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Award and the 2025 Sunset Travel Awards, offer a themed escape full of history, local flavors and relaxed hospitality. From May 15 to 17, guests spend one night at each hotel, enjoying guided tours, signature dining experiences, curated cocktails and opportunities to explore the lore and landscapes that shaped the area.

Highlights of the Spring Gold itinerary include:
Day One
Arrive at The Holbrooke in Grass Valley and join a guided property tour led by the hotel’s resident history expert. Unwind with a craft cocktail in the Iron Door speakeasy, then enjoy a chef’s tasting dinner at the Golden Gate Saloon, where seasonal ingredients meet dishes inspired by regional traditions.
Day Two
Begin with breakfast at the Golden Gate Saloon before touring Empire Mine to learn about the local mining past. In the afternoon, a short drive brings guests to nearby Nevada City to check into The National Exchange Hotel. The day includes a private tour of the historic Nevada Theatre and the Sarah Coleman murals, a haunted history tour, and drinks at Nash. Evenings feature a multicourse seasonal tasting menu at LOLA, showcasing the chef’s take on contemporary Sierra Foothills cuisine.

Day Three
The final day begins with a guided hike along the Deer Creek Tribute Trail followed by breakfast at LOLA. Guests then have time to explore Nevada City’s downtown, where independent shops, galleries and historic storefronts invite leisurely browsing and discovery.
