What a year 2022 has been for travel. After the pandemic, travel rebounded strongly, and airlines, hotels and travel providers rose to the occasion to welcome back travelers. In our 19th annual GT Tested Reader Survey awards, we celebrate the companies that delivered the best experiences. As we look ahead to year 20, here are the winners chosen by our informed and experienced readers.
Our readers—frequent, intrepid and luxury travelers—know which brands stand out. You voted across categories from airlines and airports to hotels and credit cards. Below are the results of the 2022 reader survey. See whether your favorites made the list.

Leading the winners that transport us worldwide, Singapore Airlines reclaimed the title of Best Overall Airline in the World. Oneworld took Best Airline Alliance, while American Airlines earned Best Airline Website for aa.com. The Airbus A350 was voted Best Aircraft Type.
United Airlines captured multiple honors: Fastest-Growing Airline, Trans-Pacific; Best Airline Lounges for the United Club; and Best Trans-Atlantic Airline. United MileagePlus was again named Best Frequent-Flyer Program for the 19th straight year, and it also won Best Frequent-Flyer Elite-Level Program and Best Frequent-Flyer Bonus Program. MileagePlus’s decade-long streak earned it Hall of Fame recognition.

Air France was recognized as Best Airline for International First Class and also won Best Flight Attendant Uniforms and Best First-Class Seat Design. Turkish Airlines earned four awards, including Best Airline for Business Class for the sixth straight year, Best Airline Cuisine and Best Airport Staff/Gate Agents, and its Corporate Club repeated as Best Corporate Program for Business Travelers. Turkish Airlines’ consecutive wins qualified it for Quint Status.
Delta Air Lines took Best Airline for Domestic First Class, and Delta SkyMiles won Best Frequent-Flyer Award Redemption. Asiana Airlines continued its sweep in onboard service categories, winning Best Airline for Onboard Service and Best Airline for Flight Attendants for the 19th consecutive year. Cathay Pacific won Best Business-Class Seat Design. Air Canada was singled out for Best Airline Cabin Cleanliness and Best Airline in North America.
Alaska Airlines earned Best Frequent-Flyer Customer Service for Mileage Plan and Best Airline App. Regionally, LATAM Airlines Group was named Best Airline to South America; Aeromexico remained Best Airline in Mexico for its 13th consecutive win; and Air Tahiti Nui achieved Quint Status with its fifth Best Airline in the South Pacific win. TAP Air Portugal was voted Best Airline in Europe, and LOT Polish Airlines was Best Airline in Eastern Europe.
Ethiopian Airlines was Best Airline in Africa; Etihad Airways took Best Airline in the Middle East; China Airlines won Best Airline in North Asia for the fourth straight year; and Air India secured Best Airline in Central/South Asia & India. Japan Airlines was Best Airline to Japan, and All Nippon Airways won Best Trans-Pacific Airline. Returning categories saw Air China and Qantas win Best Airline in China and Best Airline in Australia and New Zealand, respectively.
Airports are essential to the travel experience. Hamad International Airport in Doha was voted Best Overall Airport in the World for the first time and again won Best Airport in the Middle East. Chicago O’Hare International Airport took Best Airport in North America for the 19th year and Best Airport Dining. Ontario International Airport in California was named Fastest-Growing U.S. Airport and accepted a Quint Status honor.
Other airport winners included Incheon International Airport as Best Airport in Asia, Istanbul Grand Airport as Best Airport in Europe and Best Airport Shopping, El Dorado International Airport in Bogota as Best Airport in South America, O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg as Best Airport in Africa, and Dubai Duty Free as Best Duty-Free Shopping in the World and in the Middle East.

For hotels, The St. Regis Singapore was voted Best Individual Hotel in the World. The St. Regis brand won Best European Hotel Chain, while The Ritz-Carlton was named Best International Hotel Chain and Best Domestic Hotel Chain. Aloft reclaimed Best Lifestyle Hotel, and LOTTE HOTEL SEOUL was recognized again for Best MICE Hotel and Best Hotel in South Korea.
InterContinental Hotels Group earned Best Hotel Website for ihg.com and an 18th win for Best Hotel Rewards Program with IHG One Rewards. Its business program, IHG Business Edge, won Best Small- to Mid-Sized Business Program for the fourth straight year. Marriott Bonvoy secured awards for Best Frequent-Stay Elite-Level Program, Best Frequent-Stay Award Redemption and Best Frequent-Stay Customer Service. Hilton took Best Hotel App.
The Peninsula Beverly Hills was voted Best Hotel in the United States, and The Peninsula Bangkok won Best Hotel in Asia. Tokyo Station Hotel was named Best Hotel in Japan, The Fullerton Hotel was Best Hotel in Singapore and Oberoi Hotels was voted Best Hotel Chain in Asia. Other notable hotel winners include Four Seasons Istanbul at the Bosphorus, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts in Latin America, Sonesta Travel Pass, Fiesta Americana in Mexico, and Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts earning Quint Status in the Middle East.
Brands that support travel also received recognition. Volvo earned Best Overseas Delivery Program for the seventh year; Hertz was voted Best Rental Car Company; and The Parking Spot won Best Airport Parking. Greece repeated as Best Tourism Destination, Seoul was again Best MICE City, Intelsat (Gogo Commercial Aviation) won Best WiFi Service, and Tumi claimed Best Luggage Brand.
New categories this year included Best Offshore Business Location (U.S. Virgin Islands), Best Travel Insurance Company (Allianz), and Best Rail Service/Travel Provider (Rocky Mountaineer).
Co-branded credit cards that help travelers reach their goals were also honored. The United Club Infinite Card from Chase won Best Overall Credit Card, Best Credit Card Rewards Program and Best Frequent-Flyer Affinity Credit Card Promotions. The United Explorer Card entered the Hall of Fame for a decade of wins in Best Frequent-Flyer Affinity Credit Card Redemptions. Capital One Spark Miles for Business won Best Small Business Credit Card, and Capital One Venture X was recognized for Best Credit Card Design and Best New Credit Card Launch.
Marriott Bonvoy cards continued to perform strongly: the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Card was voted Best Frequent-Stay Affinity Credit Card and Best Benefits, while the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card won Best Promotions and Best Redemptions. The Alaska Airlines Visa Signature Card from Bank of America and the Princess Cruises Visa Signature Card from Barclays also received top honors in affinity categories.

THE VOTING PROCESS
Open-ended ballots ran in subscriber copies of Global Traveler and online from Dec. 14, 2021, through Sept. 30, 2022. Ballots were distributed via direct mail and email during the same period. Ballots with fewer than half of the fields completed were disqualified. Employees of FXExpress Publications, Inc., and affiliated travel-industry members were not permitted to participate.
