Finnair will add four new short-haul routes from its Helsinki (HEL) hub for the summer 2017 season. From April 11 to October 28, 2017, the airline will operate four weekly flights to Reykjavik (RKV), Iceland’s capital. This new link complements Finnair’s existing codeshare with Icelandair and provides one of the quickest connections between Asia and Iceland.
During the 2017 summer season, Finnair will also serve two popular Mediterranean islands with weekly Sunday flights to Corfu (CFU), Greece, and Menorca (MAH), Spain. In addition, a new weekly round-trip to Ibiza (IBZ) will operate on Saturdays from June 17 to August 12, 2017, offering travelers more leisure options for the peak summer period.
Capacity to the United Kingdom will grow for summer 2017. Flights to Edinburgh (EDI) will increase to five times per week, and morning services to and from London will be flown using Finnair’s modern Airbus A350 aircraft during that period. Starting March 27, the airline will operate up to nine weekly flights to Dublin (DUB), strengthening links between Finland and Ireland.
Finnair also announced a codeshare arrangement with NextJet to serve Västerås (VST) in central Sweden from Helsinki beginning September 15. This route will be Finnair’s fifth destination in Sweden and will be operated with three weekday return flights, one on Saturday and two on Sunday, offering convenient options for business and leisure travelers.
“Reykjavik is a fantastic tourist destination and we are very pleased to be able to offer this exciting route to our customers as well as the additional weekly frequencies to other great summer destinations,” said Juha Järvinen, Finnair’s chief commercial officer. “All in all, these announcements fit very nicely with our growth strategy and we are confident our customers will be very happy with these new additions.”
