The itinerary blends cultural encounters and natural wonders: local storytelling and folk art sessions; a Mi’kmaq welcome at Miawpukek First Nation; exploration of Gros Morne National Park; sampling the wine and cuisine of the French island of Saint-Pierre; and visiting the Viking site at L’Anse aux Meadows on the Great Northern Peninsula.
Along the coast, guests step ashore in picturesque fishing villages, learn about Viking archaeology by walking through reconstructed Norse dwellings at the UNESCO World Heritage site L’Anse aux Meadows, and trace other layers of the region’s past. Days ashore can include discussions of Basque whaling history, insights into Mi’kmaw culture, and guided hikes across dramatic shorelines and remote terrain.
