Eurostar Launches New London to Amsterdam Train Schedule

Train operator Eurostar first announced plans in September 2013 for a direct through-train service between London and Amsterdam. While the original launch target of December 2016 was not met, the project remains active and Eurostar has revised the timeline with the aim of opening the route by the end of 2017.

Once in service, the line is planned to operate twice daily between the two capitals, with potential intermediate stops in Antwerp, Rotterdam and at Amsterdam Schiphol airport. Eurostar expects demand to be strong because the London–Amsterdam sector is one of Europe’s busiest air routes, and many passengers could choose rail as a convenient alternative to flying.

The trains intended for the route are Siemens e320 sets, each accommodating around 900 passengers and equipped with onboard Wi‑Fi. Journey time is projected to be about four hours, though travellers should note a one-hour time difference between London and Amsterdam.

Eurostar has reported that work has been progressing, including on-track testing of e320 trains that began in April of the reported year. The operator is continuing to engage with relevant authorities to resolve border control arrangements, aiming to deliver a fast, efficient and customer-friendly service once the route launches.
