Emirates to Expand Lyon Route with Upgraded Service

Emirates has announced an upgrade to its service between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Lyon, France (LYS). Beginning February 2014, the airline will replace the current Airbus A340-500 aircraft with Boeing 777-200LRs on this route. The change increases capacity and enhances onboard product offerings for travelers on the five-times-weekly service.

The Boeing 777-200LR configuration planned for the DXB–LYS sector will provide 266 seats in total. The cabin layout includes eight private suites in First Class, 42 seats in Business Class and 216 seats in Economy. This mix boosts overall capacity while maintaining a generous premium product for long-haul connections.

Since launching the Lyon route in December 2012, Emirates has transported more than 56,000 passengers between Dubai and Lyon. The route has contributed to increased tourism to Lyon from markets across the Middle East and Australia and has opened convenient connections for travelers throughout Emirates’ global network.

Thierry Antinori, Executive Vice President and COO of Commercial Operations Worldwide at Emirates, noted that the upgrade to the Boeing 777 reflects the route’s strong performance. He emphasized that prior to Emirates’ direct link, Lyon and its surrounding region were relatively underserved by international carriers. The new service provides convenient onward connections to multiple destinations, including 10 points in India and numerous locations across the Far East, the Indian Ocean and Australia.

The introduction of the 777-200LR on the DXB–LYS route aligns with Emirates’ broader strategy to match aircraft capacity to market demand, offering more seats and improved connectivity while preserving a high standard of onboard comfort and service.
