Emirates reported a record month for passenger traffic from the United Kingdom in July, transporting more than 265,000 travelers from its six U.K. ports of call.
Over 140,000 passengers departed on Emirates services from London’s airports—Gatwick (LGW) and Heathrow (LHR). Manchester (MAN) accounted for more than 48,000 passengers, Birmingham (BHX) about 40,000, Glasgow (GLA) roughly 22,000 and Newcastle (NCL) near 12,000.
Based on current trends, Emirates expects to carry around 5 million passengers between the United Kingdom and Dubai during the 2017–18 fiscal year, which would surpass the 4.92 million recorded in 2016–17.
The airline has served the U.K. market for 30 years. At the start of its U.K. operations, Emirates transported just 4,000 British passengers, highlighting the substantial growth in demand over three decades.
In July, Dubai (DXB) was the top destination for travelers departing the U.K. with Emirates. Other popular routes included Bangkok (DMK), Phuket (HKT), Mauritius (MRU), the Maldives (GAN) and Bali (DPS).
