For timeless luxury, Elkhart Lake, Wis., has long been a stylish destination, first gaining renown when the town began hosting road races in the 1950s. Today, high-profile events take place at Road America, a four-mile, European-style circuit known for its high-speed straights, rolling terrain and challenging turns. The track’s combination of speed and variety has earned it a reputation as one of the world’s premier road courses.
From May 17–19, vintage car enthusiasts from around the globe gather for Spring Vintage Weekend to compete or cheer in a series of races featuring production cars, grand touring cars, sports racers, prototypes and formula cars. Spectators can also purchase tickets for on-track car touring sessions to get a closer look at the classic machines. Then, during the weekend of June 7–9, the Vintage Motorcycle Classic brings together motorcycles from the 1920s through the 1970s to compete for yearly titles, celebrating the machines and the riders who preserve their legacy.
For accommodations, the lakeside Osthoff Resort in the heart of town is a top choice. Guests can participate in classes at the resort’s on-site cooking school, L’ecole de la Maison, and later unwind at the property’s historic Aspira Spa. Designed with elements of sacred geometry in mind, the spa features an expansive circular meditation sanctuary and a range of treatments that make it an ideal retreat after a day at the track or exploring the lakefront village.
