Denver International Airport Offers the Fastest Airport Wi-Fi in the U.S.

Denver International Airport offers the fastest public WiFi among the 20 busiest U.S. airports, according to a study by broadband speed testing firm Ookla.

Travelers at Denver International can access free wireless internet with an average download speed of 61.74 Mbps. By comparison, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport — the nation’s busiest airport — had the slowest average download rate in the study, at 2.71 Mbps.

Ookla’s Speedtest data identified several other airports with relatively strong WiFi performance, including Philadelphia International, Seattle-Tacoma International, Dallas/Fort Worth International and Miami International. At those locations, passengers are more likely to stream video, join video calls, or download large files without frequent interruptions.

The study also highlighted airports with notably slow download speeds. Orlando International, San Francisco International, Las Vegas (McCarran) and Minneapolis–St. Paul showed lower performance, which can make high-bandwidth activities such as streaming high-definition video or uploading large files difficult.

Ookla noted the practical impact of these differences: where speeds average around 2.71 Mbps, users may be limited to audio-only calls or severely degraded video; at speeds like Denver’s 61.74 Mbps, travelers can more reliably enjoy HD streaming, video conferencing, and fast downloads while waiting for flights.

Overall, the results illustrate wide variation in public WiFi quality across major U.S. airports. For passengers who rely on airport WiFi for work or entertainment, choosing airports with higher average download speeds can significantly improve the travel experience.
