Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport has announced plans to build a new terminal in partnership with American Airlines. The project responds to growing passenger volumes at the nation’s fourth-busiest airport and aims to expand capacity while modernizing facilities.
The upcoming Terminal F will become DFW’s sixth terminal. As a major hub for American Airlines, the airport expects Terminal F to relieve congestion and support continued growth. The airport recently opened 15 new gates dedicated to American Airlines, and Terminal F is intended to further increase gate availability and operational flexibility.
Planning is already underway, and the project includes upgrades to Terminal C as part of a broader improvement program. While the final terminal layout has not been finalized, planners have set a goal of adding up to 24 gates in Terminal F. Design efforts are focused on meeting the needs of today’s travelers, with an emphasis on streamlined passenger flow, updated amenities and greater access to public transit.
As part of the modernization plan, designers are evaluating the removal of a parking garage to make room for passenger-focused features and improved ground transportation options, reflecting a shift toward increased use of public transit and ride services for airport access.
The combined investment for enhancements to the existing terminals and the construction of Terminal F is nearly $3.5 billion. The airport currently estimates completion of the new terminal and associated improvements by 2025, subject to final design approvals and construction schedules.
These upgrades are intended to enhance the travel experience by expanding gate capacity, improving connectivity between terminals, and incorporating contemporary design elements that support efficient operations and passenger comfort. DFW’s collaboration with American Airlines underscores the airport’s role as a major domestic and international gateway and its commitment to meeting future demand.
