Da Nang: Rising Hub for Business Travel and Coastal Leisure

On March 8, 1965, about 3,500 U.S. Marines landed at Red Beach in Da Nang, marking the arrival of the first American ground combat unit in Vietnam. Three years later, Da Nang became a focal point during the Tet Offensive when North Vietnamese forces launched major ground attacks against U.S. troops.

After the Vietnam War ended in 1975, relations between the United States and Vietnam took decades to normalize. Only after economic and diplomatic ties improved did tourism begin to grow. Over the last two decades Vietnam has developed a thriving tourism industry that now attracts both American business travelers and leisure visitors.

As Vietnam modernized its infrastructure and economy, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang emerged as the country’s most popular destinations. Visitor numbers from the United States have grown steadily: Vietnam recorded 69,237 U.S. arrivals in November 2024, rising to about 73,000 in December and approximately 92,000 in January 2025. Tourist flows have also increased from Europe, South America and neighboring Southeast Asian countries.

Da Nang’s tourism success reflects government investment in upgrading restaurants, hotels, streetscapes, cultural venues and outdoor recreation facilities, including several well-designed golf courses. Positioned along Vietnam’s central coast, the city is known for its accessible beaches, professionally managed resorts modeled on international standards, and a welcoming, energetic local population.

Many visitors come for Da Nang’s highlights such as My Khe Beach and the Marble Mountains, a cluster of five limestone peaks located roughly 4 miles from the Hải Châu District. The city’s busy center offers excellent restaurants, cafés and distinctive shops within easy reach of the shoreline. Others rent cars to explore the region, driving 15–20 minutes south on a well-paved, four-lane coastal road to Hội An. That historic town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, features narrow lanes filled with street vendors selling fresh produce, local handicrafts and traditional clothing.

Although most of the area’s golf courses sit outside the city limits, a notable new development opened this year within Da Nang: Fusion Resort & Villas Da Nang. Located in the popular seaside An Thuong neighborhood, the wellness-focused resort overlooks Non Nuoc Beach and brings resort-caliber amenities into the city proper.

Fusion Resort & Villas Da Nang comprises 85 private villas and 157 hotel suites, reflecting how far resort development in Da Nang and across Vietnam has progressed. The hotel tower offers a “resort in the sky” concept, with 29 guestrooms featuring private elevated pools, along with a Maia Spa, a fitness center and four dining venues serving traditional Vietnamese dishes and international cuisine.
