Virgin Atlantic is marking the first anniversary of its U.K. domestic service, Little Red, by featuring a playful Scottish treat — the deep-fried Mars Bar — in its JFK Clubhouse.
The airline began connecting London Heathrow (LHR) with Edinburgh (EDI), Aberdeen (ABZ), and Manchester (MAN) in 2013. To celebrate during Tartan Week and through the end of April, visitors to the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse can order a fun-sized “Sweet Sweet Scotland” deep-fried Mars Bar, served alongside a dram of whisky.
“To celebrate Little Red’s first year of flying to Scotland, we wanted to offer our guests an authentic taste from the region,” said Mark Murphy, Clubhouse food and beverage manager for Virgin Atlantic. “The Mars Bar has its origins in the U.K., and paired with a favorite Scottish tipple, this sweet treat celebrates the destination in a memorable, lighthearted way.”
The deep-fried Mars Bar is believed to have originated near Aberdeen as a novelty snack. The Mars Bar itself, created by Forrest Mars in 1932, combines nougat and caramel coated in milk chocolate — made even more indulgent when batter-fried and served warm.
This limited-time offering adds a playful, regional touch to the Clubhouse menu and gives travellers a chance to sample a well-known Scottish novelty before they fly.
